Who Was Richard Ramirez?

Overview     The “Night Stalker” or Richard Ramirez was a serial killer, sex offender, and burglar whose crimes were based in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. He was notorious for home invasion attacks at night, using extreme methods of violence, sexual assault, and murder. Ramirez was heavily influenced by drugs, heavy metal music, and an infatuation with Satanism, which he incorporated into his crimes. He was arrested in August 1985 and convicted of 13 counts of murder, 31 counts of sexual assault, and 14 counts of burglary. Hae Min Lee's Murder

Hate speech will not be tolerated. Overview      On February 12, 1999, The Baltimore Sun reported that the body of 18-year-old, Hae Min Lee, was found partially buried in Leakin Park. The autopsy revealed Lee died by a form of manual strangulation. At the time her body was found, Hae Min had been missing for nearly a month. Lee's ex-boyfriend, Adnan Masud Syed, was later arrested and put on trial for homicide, however, this arrest later became controversial after the 2014 Serial  podcast made an episode about this case.     This post was made to highlight the challenges that arose throughout the case including on the reliance of witness testimony and the impact media perception can have on public cases. The Death of Breonna Taylor

Overview     On March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman and emergency room technician, was shot and killed in her own apartment during a police raid conducted by the Louisville Metro Police Department. This senseless shooting brought her name to the center of global attention and conversation about race, justice, and police accountability.     As a Black student who cares deeply about law, crime, and justice with aspirations to be a lawyer, I chose to write my first post about Breonna Taylor not just because her story matters, but also because it reveals how complex and painful justice can be as a Black woman in America. ...
